Luitge Nijsingh (1590-1641)

Luitge Nijsingh (1590 - Westerbork, December 19, 1641) was a Dutch schulte. Life and work

Nijsingh was a son of the Westerbork scholars Johan Nijsingh and Wemeltien Huigen (Jansen). He was named after his grandfather Luitge Nijsingh, who in 1566 was appointed by the Knights of Knight and Eigenerfden of Drenthe to Westerbork's scholarship. In 1575 Philip II also named his grandfather in this function. His father was succeeded as a grandfather about 1588. After his father's death in 1616, Nijsingh followed him up as a schulte. He fulfilled this position 25 years to the year of his death in 1641. He was succeeded by his son Albert in January 1642.

Nijsingh married in 1611 with Berentien Altingh. Their son Jan became landowner of the Landscape of Drenthe; their son Albert followed up as his father.
