Jean Poton de Xaintrailles

La Hire and Xaintrailles portrayed in a medieval chronicle.

Jean Poton de Xaintrailles (ca. 1390 - Bordeaux, October 7, 1461) was a low-grade nobody from Gascogne. He was one of the lieutenants of Jeanne d'Arc. He also served as a royal bell in Berry and as a limousine seniscal.

Xaintrailles was, among other things, involved in the Battle of Verneuil in 1424 and the Siege of Orléans (1427) where he became injured. Then he joined Jeanne d'Arc and fought on her side throughout her entire campaign. After the death of Jeanne d'Arc, he was involved with the reunions of Normandy and Gascogne together with La Hire. He died in Bordeaux without inheritors in 1461, his territories were assigned to the church. Sources
