Dirk-Jan Bijker


Dirk-Jan Bijker (Rotterdam, February 8, 1946 - Almere, October 10, 2001) was a Dutch presenter, director and (independent) producer.

Bijker studied at the film academy with the ban on happening, about the changes in the sixties in Zeeland. He made for this award-winning documentary, among other historical recordings, of the pop festival in Kralingen. In 1970, Bijker employed the Evangelical Broadcasting as television director and cameraman. From 1 January 1979 he was head of the Evangelical and Youth Program. He made several programs, including Wind Power 16. In 1993 he started his own production company. He produced programs like Bijker, Wittewierum and nothing more to lose.

Due to his own experiences with death - he had serious problems in the last years of his life - he made a series of portraits of people who died. In addition, Bijker was active as presenter and interviewer in own documentaries and talkshows. In the fall of 2001, Dirk-Jan Bijker died of a heart attack at the age of 55. After his death, the series Nothing more lost was broadcast on television. Postuum appeared in 2002 the American feature film A Foreign Affair. In person

Dirk-Jan Bijker was married to the television presenter Tonneke Bijker-Van Belzen; they got five children. Daughter Rebecca Bijker also became a presenter and producer.
