End papers

Marbled paper of 1735.

In bondage, the guards, guards, or guards (also preceded by cards) are the unscripted papers that are found before or after the body of the book to protect the text. Being placed at the beginning and end of a book, they are not part of it. Therefore, even when they are white, expectations are not counted as pages.

The left guard, glued to the cover, is called "controguardia". The right guard, glued to the front page of the book, is called "guard paper".

Usually guard cards can be white, colored or fancy prints (in antique books were marbled), often in paper other than the rest of the book.

Their practical utility is evident in cartoned books, where they help keep the hard cover united in the lock of the book. In the presence of a brochure the looks may be completely missing, or be simulated with print effects. Notemodify wikitesto Voices correlateemodify wikitesto Other designers wikitesto
