Local employment agency

A local employment agency (PWA) is a municipal service for employment of low-skilled people in Belgium. The municipality works closely with the VDAB in this area and seeks to meet activities that can or may not be carried out by the ordinary workforce. In addition, such a PWA wants jobseekers, who have been unemployed for some time, to be able to reintegrate into the labor market. Most municipalities use PWAs to support their own services, such as city guards, playground activities, coach transport assistance and occasional help at festivals.

In addition, PWAs are also enabled in the system of service checks, whereby individuals and businesses can resort to workforce that is hard to find in the ordinary labor market.

As of July 1, 2014, the implementation of the sixth state reform has delegated powers to PWAs to the regions and the German-speaking community. Externe link
