Sijtje Antje Agatha Aafjes (Amsterdam, August 22, 1893 - Rotterdam, April 16, 1972) was a Dutch illustrator, bookbuster designer, aquarelist and pentagram.

She was especially known by illustrating many children's books (including Anna Sutorius for which she also designed the bookbands. Most illustrations of Sijtje Aafjes appeared at Van Goor's publishing house in Gouda and Kluitman publishing house in Alkmaar.

She was influenced by Berhardina Midderigh-Bokhorst and her style is related to Rie Cramer's work.

After she was a teacher at a preservation school, Aafjes formed herself with signs and later visited the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam. Here she followed an anatomy course under the direction of A.H.R. van Maasdijk.

Sijtje Aafjes also made fashion drawings for the magazine The Woman and Her Home. Source Literature
