WHPVA

The World Human Powered Vehicle Association (abbreviation WHPVA) is an international organization that stimulates the use and development of man-driven vehicles.

The organization was founded in 1976 in the United States as the International Human Powered Vehicle Association (IHPVA). The United States recumbent organization HPVA left the organization after a conflict in 2004, and in 2008, it decided to rename IHPVA, thus making two organizations with the same name. Due to a hostile acquisition, the American IHPVA received the domain name ihpva.org. In 2009, IHPVA tried to recover its domain in vain by calling on the ICANN Ombudsman. The IHPVA Board wanted to save the difficult passage to international jurisdiction, renaming the organization to the World Human Powered Vehicle Association (WHPVA). At the (American) IHPVA, USA, Canada (and Mexico) are connected, with the WHPVA, the rest of the HPV organizations in the world.

In the Netherlands, the Dutch Association for Human Powered Vehicles (NVHPV) is affiliated, in Belgium this is HPV Belgium.
