Clark / Lake is a subway station in downtown Chicago (Chicago).
The station is located above and below (West) Lake Street, between Clark Street and LaSalle Street, and connects to the blue, brown, green, orange, pink and purple lines of the Chicago subway. The blue line is the only line under Lake Street, the other lines are on The Loop, the elevated railway line through the city. The station is one block north of the town hall.
The first (aboveground) station opened in 1895 as part of the 'Lake Street Elevated Railroad' and became part of The Loop in 1897. The underground station was opened in 1951 as Lake Transfer. In 1992, the above-ground section station was reconstructed and linked to the underground station, after which the underground station also got the name Clark / Lake.
