Gian Carlo From Worms

Graduated in medicine and law, he began his career as a chess manager and was vice president of the Milan Scacchistic Society in 1932 until he assumed the presidency in 1941.

From 19 November 1945 to April 12, 1947, he was appointed extraordinary commissar of the Italian Chess Federation. He then served on several occasions as Chairman of the Board: from 12 April 1947 to 26 May 1949 and from 29 June 1958 to 18 May 1980; from then on he was honorary president.

Founder of FIDE since 1951 and honorary member since 1974, from 1947 to 1952 he served as adjunct administrator and from 1952 until his death as auditor.

Music enthusiast, composed the FIDE hymn.
