Harold Knight

Harold Knight (Nottingham, 1874 - London, 1961) was a British painter. He was born in Nottingham in 1874, a son of an architect, and studied at the Nottingham School of Art. There he met Laura Johnson, whom he married in 1903.

Harold was described as a silent man and an experienced, yet exciting, painter. His wife, the flamboyant Laura, enjoyed greater public recognition. After living in Paris and Staithes, on the Yorkshire coast, in 1907, they arrived at Newlyn. (see Newlyn Group)

During the First World War, Harold Knight was conscientiously obsessed with his colleagues and former friends. He was obliged to work as a laborer on the land, requiring much of his physical and psychological powers. After the war, he and Laura moved to London. However, they returned regularly to Lamorna to paint.
