Malacoctenus delalandii

Malacoctenus delalandii is a jet-like fish species of the mackerel family (Labrisomidae). The scientific name of the species was first published for the first time in 1836 by Achille Valenciennes. The species was named after Pierre Antoine Delalande, who had brought him from his expedition to Brazil.

The species occurs in the tropical western Atlantic Ocean, from Guatemala and Puerto Rico to Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). She feeds mainly with crustaceans, but also with snails (Gastropoda) and worms. They are usually found in coral reefs on sandy soils and in beds of Thalassia testudinum, a seaweed species. The fish are about 8 cm long.
