Noordgeest

Noordgeest is a former glory, which was part of the Land of Bergen op Zoom.

Occupation in this area is from about 1250. Northern spirit was only a neighborhood, but it knew its own naval bank, although Halsteren's bellman served as a prosecutor. The full name was: Under the Northern Spirit. By the end of the 15th century there were 33 houses and in 1780 the Northern Spirit counted 155 inhabitants. Between 1701 and 1704, during the Spanish Succession War, most of the houses were burned by French troops, which lost village and village archives. In 1786, Northern Spirit became enlarged with Theodoruspolder.

In 1810 the area of this former glory was added to the municipality of Halsteren. In 1962 she moved to Bergen op Zoom, which city sought space to expand in the northern direction. Thus a residential area was formed, called the North Spirit.

This residential area was built between 1983 and 1990. There were then 1260 dwellings added, while there were already 160 dwellings before the Second World War. The current area measures 89 ha and counts nearly 4000 inhabitants. Externe link
