The Lancet


The Lancet is a British medical journal, published weekly by the Lancet Publishing Group. It takes its name from the lancet, a surgical knife (scalpel).

The current editor is Richard Horton.

There are several specialized editions of The Lancet, called The Lancet Neurology (The Neurology), The Lancet Oncology (Oncology), and The Lancet Infectious Diseases.

The Lancet is considered by many medical scientists to be one of the most renowned scientific journals, in addition to Nature, Science (both general scientific) and the New England Journal of Medicine (medical). The Lancet has an impact factor of about 45.
