Wide wheel web spin

The broad wheel spider (Agalenatea redii) belongs to the family of spider webs (Araneidae). It is the only European species of the genus Agalenatea.

The male is 3.5 to 4.5 mm tall and the female is 5.5 to 7 mm. They can be recognized on the almost circular hind limb and the V-shaped sign on the front of this. The spider is very variable in color. Usually they are red, brown or beige. A spider that looks similar to the appearance is the bridge spider (Larinioides sclopetarius), but Agelenatea redii is clearly harder and remains smaller.
