Chenghuangtempel van Nanchang


The Chenghuang Temple of Nanchang is a Taoist temple devoted to the taoist god Chenghuang. Chenghuang is the god of the local area Nanchang. The temple is located in the city prefecture of Nangchang, Jiangxi, People's Republic of China. History

The temple was built in 1370 by Zhao Wenkui (趙文奎), at the time of the Ming dynasty. In the same dynasty the temple was moved to the southeast of the city. Nanchang used to know many Chenghuang temples, but this temple was the largest of them.

The temple then had a length of one hundred and twenty meters and a width of eighty feet. From 1436 ot 1449 the temple was renovated. During the Second Chinese-Japanese War, the temple suffered a lot of damage. After the war in 1945, the building was used by the government of the Republic of China as the headquarters of the organization that helped old refugees and victims of the war. In 1949 it became a temporary office for the communist police.
