The Confederation of the Aro was a political union of a slave state led by the Aro. The country was located in the southwest of present Nigeria and also in small parts of Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea.
After the Germans colonized Cameroon in 1884 and the Spaniards Equatorial Guinea in 1900, the area of the Aro became smaller. The British colonized Nigeria around 1901 and the Aro attacked the city of Obegu. The British responded by attacking the capital Arochukwu on which the Confederation ceased to exist.
