Max Hilzheimer

Max Hilzheimer (Kehnert, November 15, 1877 - Charlottenburg, January 10, 1946) was a German zoologist, specialized in the study of mammals.

In 1926 he founded Hermann Pohle (1892-1982) and Kurt Ohnesorge (1878-1961), the German Society of Mammology (DGS), of which he became an honorary member. The Berlin authorities on March 23, 1927 declared the company an official agency of the city of Berlin for the conservation of nature. The following year, the Berlin Commission for Nature Conservation was set up, whose first director was Hilzheimer. At the same time he was also director of the Department of Sciences of the Märkischen Museum.

He also observed and studied the taxonomy of the tigers, giving the trinomial nomenclature (scientific name), the tiger of southern China (Panthera tigris amoyensis) Notemodify wikitesto
