Omid

Omid (Persian: امید, "Hope") is Iran's first homemade art moon. The Iranian state television described the satellite as a 'data processing satellite for research and telecommunications'. On February 2, 2009, Omid was brought into a low orbit around the earth by an Iranian dragon launcher, the Safir-2.

The launch coincided with the 30th anniversary of the Iranian Revolution. The launch was reviewed by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. This launched the Omid with the words "Allāhu Akbar" and said the satellite was launched to bring monotheism, peace and justice to earth. Also see
