The Strait of James Ross is a stretch between the island of King William and the Boothia Peninsula in the Canadian Nunavut province. He was named in honor of the polar explorer James Clark Ross. It joins the McClintock Canal at Rae's Strait.

A large number of polar explorers in the search for the Northwest Passage sailed through the Strait, from John Franklin to Roald Amundsen.

Among the islands in the channel are the Clarence Island, the Tennent Islands, the Beverley Island and the Matty Island.
