Stubaital

The Stubaital is a valley in the Austrian state of Tyrol. The river Ruetz, also known as Ruetzbach, flows through the valley.

The approximately 40 km long valley of Schönberg (located between Innsbruck and the Brenner Pass), in the south-west direction. Up to the main village in the valley, Fulpmes, residential cores on terraces on the one hand are from the gap that the Ruetz has dragged through the centuries. At Fulpmes, these terraces cross into a valley basin. South of Neustift im Stubaital, between Stackler and Milders, the valley splits itself into the Oberbergtal (to Stöcklenalm) and the Unterberg Valley (to Mutterbergalm).

The municipalities of Schönberg, Mieders, Telfes im Stubai, Fulpmes and Neustift are located in Stubaital. By public transport, Stubaital from Innsbruck is accessible by local bus and via the Stubai railway line. In Fulpmes there is a power station of the Österreichische Bundesbahnen for the power supply to the Brennerspoor line.

The Stubaital is one of the many winter sports areas in Austria, with 110 kilometers of descent. On the Stubai glacier (up to about 3300 meters), Austria's largest glacier area, you can ski from October to June. The longest descent in Austria, the Wild Grub'n ski run, is 10 kilometers long and runs from the glacier (3200 meters high) to the gondola lift station in the valley (1750 meters high).
