The summary of previous episodes or the summary of previous episodes is a narrative mechanism used in many television fiction to remind the spectator of the past plot events that led to the current situation. The two terms are used according to the type of fiction, if divided into bets (miniseries, television miniseries, soap opera and telenovela) or divided into episodes (television series).
This is usually a short sequence of scenes from episodes or previous bouts (possibly enriched by an off-topic comment) that precedes the current episode, prologue, to clarify the context. Depending on fiction, it is used consistently before each episode or only in certain circumstances, as in the case of long episodes divided into multiple bets, in others it is never used. Situations that make a useful summary of the previous bets are those of bets that resume the narration from a cliffhanger or continue a subwoofer that had been developed in one or more unpublished bets and which the viewer would most likely have not seen or forgetting.
The summary of the previous bets is traditionally introduced by the phrase "in previous episodes of ..." or "in previous episodes of ..." (series name). In some television series (eg Stargate SG-1), the voice that introduces the summary of the previous bets is that of a character in the series itself.
In order to reach more effectively the purpose of reconstructing the context of the narrative, it may be possible to include a sequence of previous sequences that are never aired or the sequences reproduced are dubbed differently, replacing the original phrases with others more unconnected from the context of the scene of belonging and therefore more understandable to oneself.
In the editions of the television series for home videos, the summaries of the previous batches are not always treated uniformly; in some cases they are systematically included in the bets, in others systematically excluded, and in others still associated with only a few bets.
