Big Bud

Big Bud 747, the world's largest tractor

Big Bud Tractors Inc. (1961-1992) was a brand of tractors. The brand was founded in 1961 in Havre (Montana). In 1969, the Northern Manufacturing Company, a subsidiary of Big Bud, was formed with the goal of demanding high-quality, heavy-duty heavy-duty four-wheel drive and high power tractors. The original Big-Bud design was renewed on a number of points. For example, the model got a patented tilting cab and hood for easy access to the engine and a new transmission and hydraulics, and a simple sliding system for removing the engine. The excellent performance of the Big Bud was accompanied by ease of maintenance and easy access to the main inspection points.

In 1974 models with 300 and 350 hp engines appeared. Virtually all tractors were sold to farmers in Montana. After 1977, Northern Manufacturing launched a new factory, the sales area now also covered California, Hawaii and other US states, as well as Canada, Australia and Iran. In 1978, Northern Manufacturing once built the Biggest Big Bud, the 16V 747. The tractor was driven by a Detroit Diesel sixteen cylinder engine and featured a Twin Disc powershift transmission.

In the eighties, many manufacturers made a hard time financially and Big Bud did not jump the dance. In 1985, Meissner Brothers bought from Chester, Montana, Northern Manufacturing, Big Bud Tractors Inc. and Big Bud Industries Inc. Although Meissner built another Big Bud, the downfall for the brand was inevitable. The last Big Bud left the factory in 1992.
