The Bv P.178 was a project for a diving bomber developed by German aircraft builder Blohm und Voss. Development
The design had an asymmetric shape. However, this form only concerned the location of the engine and the span of both wings.
The engine was a Junkers Jumo 004B jet engine and was mounted under the starboard wing. In this wing an extra wing piece was fitted for suspension of the engine. This created the asymmetrical appearance of the design. The location of the engine placed the hull out of the center of the flight line.
Two fixed fuel missiles were placed in the tail section. These could be used during the start or dive flight during an attack.
The cockpit was placed in the hull nose and fitted with a drop of cockpit cap. A large fuel tank was placed directly behind the cockpit in the hull. An internal bombing room was fitted under the fuel tank. In this case a 500 kg SC500 bomb could be transported. It was also possible to place a 1,000 kg SC1000 bomb, but it had to be transported partly outside.
The reinforcement consisted of two 15mm-MG151 / 15 guns in the hull nose.
A nose wheel landing gear was fitted, whose nose wheel was pulled back into the hull. The mainlanding frame was pulled inwardly into the wings. A standard tail section was used, however, the height rails were placed high on the directional stirrer.
