Foundation for the Development and Construction of an Experimental Screw

The Development and Construction of an Experimental Screwdriver (SOBEH) was founded in 1951 to develop a Dutch helicopter. This initiative was launched following positive reports by the NSF and NIV Foundation, and through the positive experiences with Sikorsky S.51.

The design of the SOBEH-1 came from Ir. Jan Meyer Drees. He designed a single helicopter with two ramjets at the end of the large rotor blades. A revolutionary design, because it made it the only one of its kind at the time. The SOBEH-1 design made its first flight in October 1954 but was damaged. And the SOBEH-2 developed its first flight in 1955. The results were so good that the experiment was successful and decided to liquidate the SOBEH in 1955. The series production was handled by the NHI. A collaboration of Aviolanda and Kromhout. Helicopter types
