Frans van Cauwelaert de Wyels (Our Lady of Lombeek, August 29, 1939 - Kortrijk, October 4, 1991) was professor at the Catholic University of Leuven and a short time campus rector of the Kortrijk KULAK University. family
Frans Van Cauwelaert the Wyels belonged to the Van Cauwelaert family from East Flanders and Flemish Brabant. His grandfather, Hendrik Van Cauwelaert (1877-1927), was the brother of Minister of State Frans Van Cauwelaert (1880-1961) and of the poet and novelist August Van Cauwelaert (1885-1945). Lifecycle
Frans Van Cauwelaert de Wyels obtained his degrees in engineering and chemistry in the chemistry and agricultural industries (1962) and doctor of agricultural science (1966) at the Catholic University of Leuven.
He became a professor at this university, especially affiliated with the Campus Kortrijk. After the almost twenty-year campus rectorate of Mgr. Guido Maertens was elected to his successor. He would officially take office on 4 October 1991 at the opening session of the academic year. However, during the previous night he died of a massive heart attack.
He was married in 1964 with Mia Bafort (Eeklo, 1939) and they had two daughters and a son.
He was also Chairman of the Family Association of Cauwelaert. Publications
