Ad-Darazi

Muhammad bin Ismail Nashtakin Ad-Darazi (Buchara), Arabic: محمد بن اسماعيل نشتاكين الدرازي, was an 11th-century Ismailite priest and early leader of the Drues. Nashtakin was of Turkish origin.

As his surname "ad-Darazi" indicates, he was probably a tailor. Ad-Darazi was the first to publicly announce the divinity of the Fatimidal caliph al-Hakim. He disappeared after losing the favor of the caliph because his doctrines led to riots. According to some sources, he disappeared to Syria. It seems more likely and in line with the behavior of the caliph that he was killed in his mission.

Hamza ibn-Ali ibn-Ahmad, the founder of the Druzian religion, built on ad-Darazi's mindsets. Hamza believed in the transmigration of the soul and proclaimed the divinity of the Fatimidal caliph al-Hakim from 1017.
