A Catholic school is a school recognized by the Catholic Church with goals set in a Christian education and training project.
In the Netherlands, Catholic education is governed by the General Regulations for Catholic Education (ARKO) from 1987. This regulation also governs the competence of the Dutch Catholic School Board (NKSR).
In Flanders, Catholic Education Flanders (known as the Flemish Secretariat of Catholic Education, VSKO) is represented by the Belgian bishops in charge of the coordination and representation of Catholic education and the General Council of Catholic Education is the consultative body of the Belgian Episcopal Conference and other policy bodies (institutional powers, teachers and parents).
