Cloister of Montecalvario

Main Voice: Montecalvario Church.

The Cloister of Montecalvario is a monumental cloister of Naples located on Montecalvario and annexed to the homonymous church.

The cloister was erected in the 16th century by the Friars Osservanti of St. Francis thanks to a concession of 250 annual shields by the nobleman Ilaria d'Apuzzo, who rense possible the construction of the complex.

In the nineteenth century, the nuns of the community of San Vincenzo de 'Paoli and Santa Luisa of Marillac arrived in Naples from France by purchasing the Franciscan monastery from the state.

In that century the monastery had one of the most important roles in the city; today, of this building there is nothing but the rectangular porch in pipeline. Bibliografiamodifica wikitesto Voices correlateemodify wikitesto
