Province of West Zealand

Vestsjællands Amt (province of Vestsjælland) is a former province of Denmark. The province originated in 1970 by the merger of the old counties of Sorø Amt and Holbæk County.

The capital, but not the largest city in the province, was Sorø. The area was 2983,77 km². The province had 304 761 inhabitants, namely 151 382 men and 153 379 women (anno 2005). Most residents work in the area around Copenhagen.

On January 1, 2007, the provinces in Denmark were abolished. Vestsjælland is now part of the new Zealand region. Municipalities
