Willem Lieftinck


Willem Hendrik Lieftinck (Amsterdam, October 25, 1865 - Utrecht, June 3, 1922) was a Dutch minister and politician. Life and work

Ds. Lieftinck was born in Amsterdam in 1865 as a son of Jan Hermannus Lieftinck. He studied theology at the University of Amsterdam. He began his career as a minister at Lichtenvoorde. After that he also worked as a minister in Loenen and Muiderberg. In 1905 he was a candidate for the Dutch Parliament for the Christian Democratic Party. In 1913, he was a candidate for the National Bond Protestant Choir. Lieftinck was co-founder of the Christian Social Party and he was Secretary of the National Bond Protestant Choir from 1914 to 1916.

Lieftinck married Baarn on May 25, 1893 with Gerarda Johanna of Hoolwerff, and together they had a son; the breakthrough politician and professor Piet Lieftinck. Willem Lieftinck was related to Liberal Lower House member Francis Lieftinck.
