Henny Moddejonge


Henny Moddejonge (Enschede, 21 October 1926 - Enschede, May 24, 2011) was a Dutch footballer. Together with his younger brother Gerrit Moddejonge, he came out for the Enschede Sports Club in the 1940s and 1950s. Hennie Moddejonge was also called The Great Moddejonge or Moddejonge Senior.

In 1943 Moddejonge made his debut for SC Enschede in the tournament at the Silver Ball in Rotterdam. He took the place of former international Gerrit Nagels, who debuted this tournament as SC Enschede's trainer. The team won the Silver Ball by defeating in the final Neptune.

In the years after the war, Moddejonge acquired a permanent place in the base of SC Enschede. He played together with players like Hennie Möring, Joop Janssen, Joop Odenthal and later Abe Lenstra and Helmut Rahn. In 1954 he made the transition to paid football in the Netherlands. In the season of 1957/58, SC Enschede captured just next to the national championship, when lost in a 1-0 win of DOS. In 1959 he ended his career.

Henny Moddejonge was later a trainer at various amateur clubs, including Sportclub Enschede. In 1976 he underwent a cardiac surgery. In April 2011, he received health problems when visiting a home match of FC Twente. He had to undergo cardiac surgery and was still affected by a heart attack while in hospital. He passed away shortly thereafter.
