A light is a group of soldiers who are called together to fulfill the duty of service. Lighting is also used for other groups of people who start with something like a school class.
Lighting often indicates an annual class. For example, the light of 1975 includes anyone who was called or started in 1975.
The Dutch Armed Forces had six lights a year, one every two months. For example, 1975-22 was the group that had to report to a barracker and the 1975-676 group at the beginning of March 1975. The group started in November of the same year.
