Luigi Pizzardi

Marchese, belonging to a Bolognese family with rich land ownership, was already one of the main political figures in Bologna since 1846. He was the first mayor of the city. In 1860 he was appointed Senator of the Kingdom of Italy but did not participate in the Senate. He donated great assets to Hospital Maggiore to build the current Bellaria Hospital.

In 1920 the heirs donated to the Museum of the Risorgimento and the Gallery of Modern Art (Bologna) some great 19th century paintings that adorned the famous Risorgimento Salon wanted by Pizzardi in his palace.
