Wreckage or waste was waste, not only made up of blown leaves, branches, sand, mud and sludge, but also food scraps, peels, vegetable and garden waste and even faeces from originally a number of Dutch cities. The dirt or dragon was used in the Groninger peat colonies, among other things, to make fertile soil of the excavated fins. The collection of urban waste, including street congestion, was not just a Groninger affair. In many Dutch cities such as Alkmaar, Gouda, Leiden, Haarlem and Amsterdam, the collection of urban waste (both the street dump and the dirt and ashes from homes) was leased to individuals. Often these items were mixed and the product was sold as a compost, which could be a good sandwich. Much of the Flemish and French fields were fertilized with this, so that the soil structure improved. Organic waste could be used as a fertilizer for composted soil in a composted form. This form of fertilization occurred in the Middle Ages. In the 1930s, the search of the municipality of The Hague formed a place for dumping the house and street garbage, which prompted the creation of the VAM. With the compost made there were, among other things, the Drentse sandy land made more fruitful.
