Action Theory Geography

An action theoretical approach in social geography is based on an action theory approach in the social sciences in general. Within the social geography, this approach arises from what sometimes also called humanist geography. However, the humanistic approach within social geography is not a coherent approach, but rather a rather eclectic combination of different thinking currents stemming from phenomenological, existentialist and humanistic philosophy. In a more systematic way, this action-theoretical approach has been developed by Swiss geographer Benno Werlen, now professor at Friedrich-Schiller University in Jena, Germany. After that, this approach has been further developed in a more language pragmatic basis by geographies such as Wolfgang Zierhofer and Huib Ernste. The latter is now a professor at Radboud University in Nijmegen. Externe link
