The Battle of Oriskany was a hit that took place on August 6, 1777 during the Battle of Saratoga, the Saratoga campaign, during the United States Independence War at the Oriskany Creek in New York State. An American militia unit under General Nicholas Herkimer was struck in an ambush and struck by pro-British loyalists under Barry St. Army. On the British side, a contingent of Indians under Joseph Brant and John Butler took part in the attack.

The Americans wanted to disgust Fort Stanwix, busted by the British, but were taken back. Herkimer suffered a life threatening injury, but caused another counterattack. Due to a severe thunder, the remaining Americans could flee, but half of the men were killed, injured or detained.

By the battle, however, the siege could inflict heavy damage on the stocks of the conquerors, leading to a defeat at Saratoga for the British.
