Compatibility (computer science)

Compatibility in computer science refers to the extent to which programs or software work together. If a program is incompatible with certain software, such as an operating system, the program will not work on that operating system. This can also be applied to hardware, for example, when a particular CPU type does not work with a particular type of motherboard, it is incompatible.

Compatibility can also be applied to software licenses: When licensing sets similar terms, they are compatible with each other. Examples
