LWD was a German brand that built 1972 and 247cc motorcycles with its own engines since 1921.
In the same period, hundreds of other small brands were created in Germany. Most of them produced low-cost engines by purchasing other brands, but LWD developed and produced its drive units themselves. The competition was so severe that only 150 more of these small producers disappeared from the market in 1925. That also happened with LWD.
