Tai O

Tai O is a fishing village in Hong Kong. It is partly on an island with the same name and the rest is on Lantau. The village is famous for its many p'angang ngoks. It has its own rural committee.

There are two children's playgrounds, one primary school (CCC Tai O Primary School) and one high school (Buddhist Fat Ho Memorial College). History

When the British arrived in Hong Kong, Tai O was a Tanka village. During the Chinese Civil War and after the establishment of the People's Republic of China, Tai O became a gateway to illegal migration for Chinese mainlanders. Some of these immigrants remained in Tai O. Later, Tai O became attractive to Hoklo and Hakkanese.
