Vlaakenhoek is a nature and recreation area west of Willemstad. The area is 54 hectares and is owned by State Forestry.
In the past, this was a gorzone area located at the Volkerak. With the construction of Hellegatsplein and Volkeraksluizen, around 1967, this area was largely lost due to clay incineration and the spraying of sand. From 1979-1981 a forest was planted, there were lanes and tree meadows, a swamp, and a water lake (Lake Zwanen).
There are colonies of shore swamps and blue herons. Also killing, cracking, tealing, slobing, table and tureluur breeding there.
