Aristyllus

Aristyllus (Greek: Αρίστυλλος ο Σάμιος, Arístyllos o Sámios) (+/- 260 BC) was a Greek astronomer and probably a Timocharis pupil. He was one of the first to do meridian observations. His data suggest that he was working in Alexandria.

Some of his data have been stamped inaccurately for a long time because of a wrong date. But when it became clear about what period he made his observations, it appeared that, if and in the end, these were the most accurate in his time.

The Crater Aristillus on the moon and a moon meridian were called to him.
