Foam head race

The Foam Race is an annual race between up to 20 traditional sailing ships on the Ketelmeer and IJsselmeer. The first race ended in 2004 from Kampen. Since then, the race returns yearly and serves as a warmer for the cruise season of the participating charter ships.

The race is threatened every year in the last weekend of March. On the saturday the race started with a sailing boot. The ships sail as soon as possible to Urk, where a barrel of herring is picked up. After a short stop all ships return to Kampen.

On the second day, the Island Eye is run after an anchor start (which may be several times, but it is announced during the palaver because it is weather-dependent).

During the race, time deduction is awarded for the ship that realizes the fastest sailing time. In addition, the fastest man-over-board maneuver can provide time gain.

On Sunday afternoon a prize ceremony will be held after the race. The winning ship receives the Foam Cup Trophy. This trophy is made by a Kamper artist every year.

Since 2008, the Foam Race has also contributed to the total score for the IJsselmeerbokaal. Externe link
