Underwater technician

The underwater technician is eligible to carry out underwater and / or inshore diving activities (Inshore / Offshore Diving). He performs installation, maintenance, recuperation / research and non-destructive testing on submerged and corrosive works, subject to specialization. But it is often called for relief as well, when required by the competent authorities and recovery of casualties trapped in vessels or planes and helicopters sunk. The underwater technical training operator can undergo underwater activities, usually breathing air or nitrox (oxygen enriched mixture) and different diving techniques (up to bathmetry of -50 meters) and high backwater usually by breathing a mixture of composite gas from helium and oxygen mainly through the technique of immersion in "helium saturation". This can be done either by acting on its own, as an individual enterprise and / or on behalf of companies specializing in both the port and the oil industry (Oil & Gas Diving Company).

In Italy, in order to undertake underwater professional activities in the spatial marine waters as well as in lakes and rivers, in addition to the possession of the OTS professional qualification, which is acquired at a vocational school recognized by the region, it should be appropriate according to the findings provided by the attitudinal psychophysical evaluation card attached to DM Mercantile Marina, unfortunately dating back to far-away epochs, of 13.01.1979, G.U. No 47 of 16.02.1979, and subsequent amendments and additions and no longer up-to-date. As a matter of fact, the same category, never updated and forced to, for example, have to undergo work contracts from metalworkers, while working in very different and risky conditions than an ordinary worker of any industry.
