Andrea Gabrieli

Andrea di Cannaregio Gabrieli (about 1533 - 1585) is considered to be the most important Venetian composers of his time. Lifecycle

Details about Gabrieli's first years of life are scarce. In older studies, his birth year was circa 1510 and is considered a pupil of Adriaan Willaert, the chapel of the Basilica of San Marco. In the 1980s, the record was discovered describing not only his death date (August 30, 1585), but also that he was "about 52 years old", leaving his birth year earlier around 1533. Certainly, he was in Germany between 1562 and 1565 and collaborated with Munich with Orlandus Lassus in Munich. In 1566 he acquired the post of organist at the San Marco in Venice. Working

Andrea Gabrieli, although not a chaplain, also wrote a lot of liturgical and ceremonial music for the San Marco. More than one hundred moths and madrigals are known from his hand and a smaller number of instrumental works. His most famous students include his cousin Giovanni Gabrieli, himself an important composer and publisher of a large part of Andrea's work, and Hans Leo Hassler. Compositions
