The Dum-Dum arsenal was a British army depot located near the city of Dum Dum (near Calcutta) in today's Western Bengal, India.
The arsenal was at the center of the Indian uprising of 1857 and the army deployed bullet bullets used to hunt animals. It was here that Captain Neville Bertie-Clay developed the "Dum-dum bullet" (Mark IV cartridge) projectiles, a bullet designed to expand into the flesh. This was the first bullet for military use, later banned by international convention.
On December 7, 1908, a major explosion occurred in the arsenal Dum-Dum, resulting in the death or wounding of about 50 natives. Notemodify wikitesto
