Auguste Lindt was born as a pharmacist and manufacturer's son. After completing the high school diploma, he studied law at the University of Geneva and graduated from the dissertation Das Soviet Russian Law. He started his career as a banker in several European cities. Lindt then worked as a special correspondent in Germany. During the Second World War, he served as chief of civil secrets. From 1946, Lindt was spokesman and adviser to the Department of Foreign Affairs. In 1952, Lindt was appointed as Executive Chairman of UNICEF. From 1956 to 1960 he worked as High Commissioner for Refugees. Then he served as a diplomat in Washington D.C. and Moscow.
