Coordinates: 58 ° 24'32 "N 15 ° 33'45" E / 58.408889 ° N 15.5625 ° E58.408889; 15.5625 Ryd is a residential district in Linköping (eastern Sweden), best known for hosting most of the Linkoping University (LiU) student body. Students live in homes specifically assigned to them. Many of these have the shape of corridor rooms, where students have their own room with private facilities and a shared kitchen.
Ryd's architecture is typical of the Miljonprogrammet popular building project from 1965-1974, with the exception of Ryds Herrgård (also known as Herrgår'n or just as HG), made like a mansion, serving as a pubs and student clubs.
Residents of Ryd often refer to Ryd student (in Swedish Studentryd) in opposition to the so-called Ryden of people (Människoryd), predominantly inhabited by non-students. In Linköping, the Ryd has a reputation for being a fairly defective neighborhood, mainly because the "Ryd of People" consist solely of relatively affordable rental properties, which are attractive for low income people.
