Goeree-Overflakkee (water board)

Water Board Goeree-Overflakkee is a former water board whose territory corresponds to the current island of Goeree-Overflakkee. The water board has existed from 1981 to 2005.

In 1940 there were more than 50 polders and five water boards on the whole island. In the mid-50's a number of polders who formed a merged unit together were merged. In 1957, the polders around Goedereede were merged into the Goereese polder, joining the polders around Stellendam and Ouddorp ten years later. In 1973 all polders were lifted in the middle and east of the island and the Flakkee water board was founded. For example, in the 1970s there were two large public bodies on the island, which were buried in 1981 by the county of Goeree Overflakkee. The task of the new water board was to provide about 80 km of main watercourses, 75 km of inland waterway and 440 km away. The daily board of the water board consisted of a dike dive and six heemrades. In 2005, the water board went up in Waterschap Holland Delta.
