Istmo di Tehuantepec

Istmo di Tehuantepec

The Tehuantepec Isthmus is a isthmus of the southern region of Mexico stretching from the bay of Campeche to the north to the Gulf of Tehuantepec to the south. It represents locally the minimum distance between the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean. The name comes from the city of Santo Domingo Tehuantepec in the state of Oaxaca, which in turn derives from the natural formation of tecuani-tepec (literally the "jaguar hill"). Geografiamodifica wikitesto

The isthmus includes the part of Mexico located between the 94º and the 96º meridian of longitude west. It includes the south-eastern parts of the states of Veracruz and Oaxaca, including small areas of Chiapas and Tabasco. The states of Tabasco and Chiapas are located to the east of the Isthmus, Veracruz and Oaxaca to the west.

The isthmus measures 200 km at the minimum point between the Gulf and the Gulf, or 192 km if you consider the Superior Lagoon on the Pacific Coast. Other designers wikitesto
