José Vidal-Beneyto


José Vidal-Beneyto (Carcaixent, June 26, 1927 - Paris, March 16, 2010) was a Spanish philosopher, sociologist and political scientist.

Beneyto studied literature and philosophy, political science, law and sociology at the University of Valencia and at the Complutense University of Madrid. He became a doctor in law at the University of Málaga and studied further at the Sorbonne and at the University of Heidelberg. He became an active opponent of francism and participated in the Junta Democrática. Vidal-Beneyto studied sociology at the University of Complutense, led the "Collège des hautes études européennes Miguel Servet" in Paris and since 2006 was a doctor of honoris causa from the University of Valencia. He regularly wrote for El País. He also participated in various international projects and programs, especially on the connection between communication and culture, integration and globalization. Vidal-Beneyto advised several Spanish Ministers of Culture and Foreign Affairs. Working (selection)
